Referral Medical Services Wellness Programs and Geriatric Counseling Advances in medical care, disease detection, and nutrition mean that pets are living longer. If we consider that aging occurs in our pets more rapidly than humans, that a dog or cat is a young adult by a year of age (equivalent to a 20 year-old human), middle aged by age five (40-45 human years) and a senior by age 9-10 we can see that proactive, preventive medical care becomes even more imperative. We recommend a minimun of one wellness exam per year for all our patients and twice-a-year exams for our senior patients. Vaccination and Preventive Medical Protocols Every pet has its own unique lifestyle and associated health risk. Our staff will recommend vaccination and preventive health programs that address these individual needs, allowing time to answer and discuss questions that you may have. Dental Examinations- Ultrasonic Teeth Cleaning and Polishing Maintaining dental and periodontal health throughout a pet’s lifetime not only minimizes halitosis (bad breath) which you notice as an owner, but greatly diminishes infected teeth and gums, kidney disease, liver disease, and heart disease, which we see here at Hillmount in our patients who are afforded less than adequate dental care. At each wellness exam, we will always check your pet’s mouth and evaluate if dental treatment is needed. We find that our most long-lived patients with the best quality of life, have reached their senior age with appropriate dental care. In-House Laboratory Hillmount Animal Hospital has an Abaxis Lab Profiler that when needed, allows us to evaluate your pets metabolic status within minutes. We recommend pre-procedure screening for all our senior patients and other at-risk individuals before dental cleaning or other sedation/anesthetic inductions. We also provide complete laboratory evaluation services through Antech Diagnostics, with most results available within 24 hours. EKG (Electrocardiogram) Our hospital makes available to our patients, both portable in-house EKG technology which we utilize for pre-surgical screenings, and a comprehensive Cardiopet unit which allows a complete EKG evaluation to be made via phone modem by a board certified cardiologist. Radiology Evaluation In 2007, our hospital installed a new Summit DXR digital radiology unit. This state of the art Xray machine produces high quality contrasted radiographs in 5 seconds, enabling our doctors to visualize orthopedic and soft tissue structures to a far greater degree than preexisting conventional radiograph units. Through digital radiography Hillmount Animal Hospital has Gone Green! Liquid xray processing has been eliminated, which conserves water and eliminates chemical waste discharge. Digital radiography lowers the amount of electricity required to produce each Xray and subsequently reduces radioation exposure for both human staff and animal patients. Additionally, our RadioVet PAC system archives over 3000 patient radiographs and allows our doctors to view xrays and conduct radiograph consultations with clients using a computer monitor which replaces conventional xray film and illuminated view boxes. The addition of these two instruments greatly enhances our hospital’s ability to provide technologically advanced diagnostics for our patients and clients for many years in the future. Surgical Care Hillmount provides a wide range of surgical services from minor to more in-depth soft-tissue and orthopedic procedures. In 2001, we purchased a CO2 laser surgery unit that allows us to provide a surgical technology that minimizes hemorrhage during surgery and patient pain postoperatively. We are continually expanding the type of surgeries that we perform via laser, including declaws, dermal masses, and procedures of the ear, eyelid and oral cavities. Behavioral Counseling- Nutritional/Dietary Counseling We often find that the eventual diagnosis of your pet’s medical problem may not be a metabolic abnormality, but a behavioral or compulsive disorder. Quite often, the most effective treatment for a disease or medical condition is not found in “pills” being dispensed but the solution, resolution or control being found in dietary or nutritional management. Our staff prides itself in being able to look beyond the usual and determine if other diagnostic or treatment modalities are necessary and then allotting the needed time to share diagnostic and therapeutic information with you, the client. Microchip Pet Identification We provide both microchipping and tattooing services for county lifetime licensing. Additionally, the registration of your pet’s microchip with the AKC will provide nationwide tracking of your pet if it is lost or stolen. Please contact us if you have questions about this service. Boarding Hillmount Animal Hospital offers boarding, nail trims, bathing, and comb outs as services for clients of record. Our air conditioned facility has 7 indoor runs and 28 indoor kennels. Visiting canine guests are walked twice daily by our staff. Owners may provide special diets if desired, and necessary medications can be administered for a small additional charge. At Hillmount Animal Hospital, we understand the very unique needs of both our canine & feline friends when boarding. We know what it takes to make both species feel at ease while away from the comforts of their own homes. While boarding at our facilities, our feline guests stay in area that is separate from our canine guests to avoid any undue stress from barking & the scent of their foe, the dog. Our canine friends get personal walks twice a day. Rhonda, our kennel manager, has a strong commitment to giving all our boarding visitors her personal attention. All of our boarding guests are fed Science Diet pet foods. Administration of needed medications and monitoring of health conditions can/will be done if needed. Pickup/dropoff hours on Sunday from 9-9:30 a.m. To minimize waiting and schedule delay to our clients, we request that check-in/ check-out be completed within ½ hour before hospital closing. Emergency Services Our hospital provides emergency coverage 24 hours a day for clients of record. If an emergency arises after our scheduled hours, you may obtain assistance by calling the office telephone number (249-7272). After hours emergency service is handled by Dr. Bowers. However, the Hillmount answering service may direct you to contact Animal Emergency, the 24-hour emergence clinic. You may reach them directly by calling 796-2334. Referral Medical Services As in human medicine, the diagnosis and treatment of a medical condition cannot always be effected in the general family practice situation and referral to a specialist is necessary. At Hillmount Animal Hospital, we will completely evaluate your pet’s medical needs. If we feel that the diagnosis or treatment of your pet’s disease is beyond the scope of our hospital, we will offer the option of care provided by a board certified specialist at one of several referral practices with which we maintain a professional relationship. |
